How it works
How the "What stays yours?" test works
You pick the job family closest to your work, tick the tasks you do most weeks and say how each one leaves you feeling. The test sorts your tasks into three piles and shows the ones that both stay human and give you energy.
The three piles
- AI can do most of it
- Today's AI tools can produce a usable first version of the task with light checking.
- AI helps, you lead
- AI can speed up parts of the task, but the judgement stays with a person.
- Stays yours
- The task depends on physical presence, trust, care, live skill or someone taking responsibility.
How we labelled the tasks
We wrote 8 typical tasks for each of 30 job families and gave each one a label. The labels are our own judgement, informed by public research on which work tasks today's AI tools can do. They are estimates, not predictions. Your version of a job may differ, and the labels will change as AI changes. Last reviewed: October 2026.
Many tasks also carry one of four human strengths: hands and presence, trust and care, accountability, or craft and live moments. The result uses the strengths behind the tasks that give you energy to point to roles built on the same strength. This matters most if you would rather keep AI out of your work.

What we count, and what we do not
Your answers stay in your browser, and we do not ask for your name. To improve the test we count anonymous steps: for example, that a test was started, the job family chosen, the AI preference and the three percentages. These counts carry no IP address, no cookie and no email address. If you choose to join the email list, the privacy policy explains how we handle your email.
What this test is not
It is a self-help tool. It is not career, financial, legal or medical advice, and it cannot promise that any job is safe. If work worries are affecting your health, call Samaritans free on 116 123 (24 hours) or NHS 111.
